We’re looking for a dynamic leader to join and lead our Underwriting team, help us continue with our rapid growth, and create a better way forward for our customers. In this position in the Credit organization, you will have the unique opportunity to build and grow the Underwriting function,  learn and advance innovative new ways to look at credit at a growing fintech company and apply those methods to extend credit (Lines of credit and Loans up to $250K) to small businesses. This role is responsible for executing underwriting operations, conducting lending analysis and dictating credit decisions for Small businesses, driving improvements to the manual underwriting process and recruiting and training junior underwriters.

The Credit organization at Fundbox owns underwriting, pricing, loan performance and collections and has direct customer-level P&L responsibility. The team is responsible for driving lending margins by making important business decisions. The team leverages data and analytics to develop policies and pricing.

In this role you will:

  • Manage all manual underwriting programs for Fundbox
  • Set the vision and agenda for the manual underwriting function, get executive buy-in and execute that agenda
  • Identify opportunities to improve lending performance - both opportunities to expand lending in low risk areas and tighten it in high risk areas
  • Interact with and maintain good rapport with customers to understand their business models while protecting Fundbox’s interests and following compliance protocols
  • Guide and support pre-underwriting functions in determining correct application of credit guidelines and policy.
  • Build a high performing team by hiring and training underwriters
  • Drive creation and maintenance of reports related to underwriting operations

You should have:

  • At least 6 years of professional experience in small business credit lending, in at least 2 different lending institutions
  • At least 2 years of experience managing team of underwriters
  • Must be able to read and analyze financial documents including tax returns, bank statements, financial statements, and credit reports
  • Ability to understand the financial condition of businesses based on reporting details and basic understanding of how businesses operate financially across different industries
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience setting and driving Underwriting agenda
